Relying on the works of <strong>Rene Guenon<\/strong> and <strong>Mircea Eliad<\/strong>e, it serves a dual purpose. On the one hand, the book provides a cross-cultural survey of the symbolism of the serpent. On the other hand, Dr. Dailey relates the symbol of the serpent to the metaphysical teachings of Guenon on \u201cchaos\u201d, the state of indifferentiation of matter (see, for example, the essay \u201cThe Two Nights\u201d in <em>Initiation and Spiritual Realization<\/em>).
