To the Queen of Heaven & inspired by Eliot’s Sunday Morning<\/a>…<\/em><\/p>\n

“Young Mary of the sky-blue cloak,
\nThe lily hands, the dusty feet-
\nIndefectible awoke,
\nFrom her soul\u2019s noetic heat.
\nShe held an angel in her eye,
\nShe spoke the flame with Seraphim-
\nInterchanging earth and sky,
\nShock the changeless Cherubim.
\nSublunar Eve in Lim cried out
\nTo see her motherhood respire.
\nMary\u2019s prayer upon her brow
\nBurns with a kenotic fire.
\nThe remonstrance ungilded stood
\nBefore the angel of the Host-
\nAcross the shadowed twisty-wood
\nMoved a many-colored Ghost.
\n
\nPaley rose in petals torn
\nSprang up within a heart unbound-
\nBeyond old suns, a rose-gold morn
\nMoves with us, our God around.
\nI fell asleep last night and feared
\nDestroying winds in sphered wheels.
\nThe Lady pure in prayer appeared
\nBefore the angel\u2019s eyes of steel.
\nGod\u2019s heralder unblinds his gaze,
\nAnd dolefully unbinds his sword.
\nHe snaps it and before her stays,
\nContemplating ancient words.
\nAcross deep heaven\u2019s blue-dark sea
\nStill sparkling with great Gabriel\u2019s wake,
\nIn golden hours, by silver tree,
\nA slender youth the fruit shall take,
\nAnd eating some, will cast the rest
\nAbout our world as he falls dead,
\nSinking swiftly with the West,
\nRocked in seeming changeless red.
\nBut Mary has a faith that\u2019s swift-
\nIt outruns all the angry dead,
\nSo from the angel\u2019s upward lift,
\nHer wide eye feeds her heart instead.
\nThe Word is done, the song is winged,
\nThe deeds are named, the Glory burns,
\nA little maid of clay will bring
\nThe star on which all turns.
\nTurn, Lady, that your cloak is winged.
\nSigh, Lady, that your prayer is thus.
\nSing, Mary, with only your eyes,
