Miserere
Floating aimless clinging to whatever,
Unaware of what is going on.
Drifting down to hell upon this river,
Toward the swirling vortex of death’s maw.
Give up hope all ye who this way row.
See your fate and feel it’s fearful tenor.
But fear the Lord and you’ll reverse the flow.
Oh Lord my God have mercy on this sinner.
A light is widening before my vision.
My heart is stretching wide as it can go,
Expanding from your beauty and your wisdom.
It is not burning wrath that you will know,
When fear is given to the place above.
But burning of the heart that’s pierced with love.
Beautiful. Well done.
This poem was inspired in large part from an experience listening to Miserere by Arvo Pärt.
